Acclimation - Fish/Corals
TURN OFF YOUR AQUARIUM LIGHTS
- Float bag for 15 minutes to equalize temperature of water in bag with that of your tank
- Open bag, clamp to tank, and add 1/2 cup tank water
- Wait 15 minutes and add another 1/2 cup
- Continue step 3 over the course of 1 to 1.5 hours
- When bag is full, drain majority of water from bag (not into your tank) and
release fish into your tank/place coral into
tank
Acclimation - Invertebrates (shrimp, snails, cukes, stars, etc.)
Invertebrates require additional acclimation time due to their more sensitive systems. For invert acclimation, please use
the above procedure but allow 20 minutes between each addition of water and continue over a 2 to 2.5 hour period. Then drain majority of water
and add invert to your system.
Thank you for your business. We appreciate your confidence in our livestock and dry goods.

All-Reef's Important Things to Know and Remember When You Acclimate Any New Livestock
|
|
|
- We keep our specific gravity at 1.025 in all of our systems. When you acclimate any new
livestock, please be certain to keep in mind the difference between your system parameters and ours. Corals, clams, anemones, and invertebrates need a specific
gravity of at least 1.023. This is a minimum. Again, we suggest 1.025 and run our systems at this level. Please keep this in mind when acclimating your
new livestock. If you are uncertain of how to properly acclimate your new livestock, please let us know, and we will provide you with an acclimation sheet. Please
also inform us of the salinity level you maintain. If we consider it to be extremely low, we will suggest that you slowly increase your salinity to an acceptable level
before purchasing certain animals/invertebrates.
- Lighting is a critical part of success with corals, clams, and anemones. Please be certain you have sufficient lighting on your system for the corals, clams, and
anemones you purchase. If you are uncertain, please ask, and we will recommend livestock that is suitable for your lighting parameters. Initially, corals, clams,
and anemones should be placed low in the tank to allow acclimation to different lighting. You may gradually elevate the animals to higher levels in your system
if necessary to provide the most suitable lighting. Again, if you are uncertain about what a particular coral, clam, or anemone needs for lighting, please ask.
- We keep the temperature of all of our systems at approximately 78-80 degrees. If you purchase livestock, we recommend you float the bag containing your new
livestock in your tank for approximately 15 minutes to allow the water temperature in the bag to equalize to that in your tank prior to completing the recommended
acclimation process.
- Not all fish are compatible, some are predatory, and some are venomous to you and their tankmates. If you are interested in a particular fish, please ask us about its
compatibility with your present tank inhabitants and its ability to inflict a venomous sting or bite upon you or its tankmates.
- Some corals are capable of stinging you and their tankmates. If you are not certain what corals are capable of stinging, please ask us and we will help you make the
best choice for your tank.
These are some of the important elements of successful reef-keeping and of making the transition from our tanks to yours as stress-free as possible for your new reef
purchases. We ask that you please pay close attention to these issues and ask us any questions you may have. We are very happy to assist you in building a thriving,
successful reef, and no question is a stupid question!
Many thanks for your cooperation!
